Universities In Delta State: Although Nigeria is home to numerous fascinating universities, if you have your heart set on attending one in Delta State, then this piece is for you.

The list of Delta State universities that have received NUC approval and accreditation. Whether they are state, federal, or privately held, will be briefly discussed in this article.

There are eight universities in Delta State, two of which are owned by the federal government, four of which are owned by the state, and seven of which are privately held.

List of Universities in Delta State

Federal Universities:

1. Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) 

The Federal Executive Council approved and formed this university on March 14, 2007. Although it didn’t begin accepting students until 2008.

The university was established as part of a Federal Government of Nigeria initiative to create a specialized institution in the Niger Delta that would produce middle—and upper-level professionals with expertise in the oil and gas business.

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun and Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun were permitted by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to share facilities before moving to its permanent location on the construction of its main campus at Ugbomro, Uvwie Local Government Area Delta State, in 2010.

FUPRE, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, is the first in Africa and sixth overall. It is situated in Effurun, Nigeria.

2. Nigerian Maritime University Okerenkoko, Delta State.

This university, a higher education facility owned and supported by the government. It is located in the center of Okerenkoko, Gbaramatu Kingdom Delta state.

The National Universities Commission of Nigeria has recognized and accredited the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko (NMU), which provides coeducational higher education in Nigeria.

Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko (NMU) offers courses and degree-granting programs leading to bachelor degrees in a variety of subjects of study. The university’s first Chief Cadet Captain and Cadet Adjutant was Emperor D.O. Alagoa.

State Universities

1. Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka- 

With a main campus in Abraka, Delta State, and a satellite campus in Oleh, Delta State University, Abraka, also known as DELSU, is a state-owned university in Nigeria.

Oleh Campus was established as a result of the 1995 Amended Edict. The school has two campuses that are separated by about 200 kilometers.

In the 2019/2020 academic year, the university had over 22,000 students and offered a range of programs. Including full-time certificate, diploma, and degree programs and part-time evening and weekend degree programs. DELSU offers postgraduate coursework at the PhD level.

2. Dennis Osadebe University, Asaba

Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, is one of the three new institutions being established by the Delta State government and sanctioned by the National Institutions Commission (NUC) in 2021.

This university has six faculties and offers undergraduate degrees in computing, management and social sciences, environmental science, management, and science. Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University is Professor Ben Emukufia Akpoyomare Oghojafor.

3. Delta University of Science and Technology, Ozoro

The Delta State University of Science and Technology is a public university in Ozoro, Delta State. The university will provide undergraduate and graduate studies in its seven faculties—agriculture, science, earth science, engineering, environmental science, information technology, and management technology.

 4. University of Delta, Agbor

The College of Education, Agbor, one of several tertiary institutions built by the previous Bendel State Government throughout the State, was established in 1980.

The College was founded to educate people to become outstanding teachers who will improve the educational system in Nigeria.

It is located in Agbor, a tranquil city that welcomes students and serves as the administrative hub of the Ika South Local Government Area in Delta State.

The college offered programs in various academic subjects while providing its students with all the facilities they required for a comfortable study environment.
