Rangel Fellowship

Through an extremely difficult worldwide procedure, the Rangel Program carefully chooses excellent Rangel Fellows each year and supports them for two years of graduate school, internships, mentoring, and professional development activities.

Particularly encouraged to apply are women, those with financial difficulties, and members of minority groups who have historically had lower representation in the Foreign Service.

According to applicable laws and State Department standards, candidates for appointment as Foreign Service Officers must successfully complete the program and satisfy the admission requirements for the Foreign Service.

Rangel Fellows are committed to helping their country and promoting progress on a global scale.

In numerous nations around the world, including Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, South Africa, Nigeria, Angola, China, Korea, Bangladesh, Spain, and Ireland, graduates of the Rangel Program are currently making major contributions.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must plan to enroll in a two-year graduate program in a subject related to the Foreign Service at a U.S. university in the fall of 2023.

They might either already have a college degree or be in their final year of undergraduate study, with a June 2023 graduation date anticipated.

At the time they submit their application, candidates must also have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or better on a 4.0 scale. Additionally, all applicants must be citizens of the United States.

Rangel Fellowship Track Record

The Rangel Program plans to award 45 fellowships in 2022, each with a maximum value of $42,000 per year and lasting for two years.

This money helps students who are pursuing a two-year master’s degree pay for things like tuition, housing, food, textbooks, and required fees.

This financial aid consists of a $18,000 academic year salary, up to $24,000 in annual tuition and fees, and other necessary costs.

Rangel Fellows are expected to have graduated from a graduate program recognized by the Rangel Program with a master’s degree in international affairs or another discipline related to the Foreign Service at the end of the two-year program (as outlined in the curriculum).
