The applications for McDonald Fellowships are currently open. This article provides a detailed explanation of the scholarship program, its benefits, and a step-by-step application process.

The McDonald Fellowships for the academic year 2024-2025 offer fully funded scholarships for international students pursuing master’s and PhD programs.

These fellowships comprise a two-year grant, approximately GBP 30,000 per year, covering travel and living expenses. Additionally, there is an extra contribution of GBP 2,000 per year to support the host institution.

Designed to support early-career researchers focusing on multiple sclerosis, the McDonald Fellowship provides an opportunity for scholars from low- and middle-income countries to work in research institutions outside their home country.

Following the fellowship, successful applicants are expected to apply their newly acquired expertise and networks, contributing to ongoing multiple sclerosis research and/or patient care in low- and middle-income countries.


Scholarship Coverage

The McDonald Fellowships offer the following benefits to the recipient:

1.£30,000 GBP per year for living and travel expenses.

2.£2,000 GBP for the fellow’s institute.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for McDonald Fellowships, candidates must meet the following requirements:

1. Be a Master’s student, PhD candidate, or MD.

2. Eligibility extends to individuals working on multiple sclerosis research in a low or middle-income country.

3. As the application involves collaboration between the applicant and the host institute, candidates must choose their host institute before applying, either in their home country or a neighboring country if travel is permitted.

4. Currently working or studying in a low- or middle-income country, as defined by the World Bank’s income classifications.

5. Engaged in work or study in another country on a project initiated within the six months preceding the nomination.

6. Pursuing studies in another country on a project supported by an MS International Federation grant.

How to Apply

Kindly adhere to the application instructions outlined below when applying for McDonald Fellowships:

1. Fill out all sections of the online application form.

2. The Host must furnish a supporting statement after the application.

3. Include names and contact information for three referees, one of whom should be the applicant’s current supervisor or employer.

4. Request referees to submit their reference letters to research{at}msif{dot}org before the specified deadline.
